I bought the violin as a little present to me last Xmas. I've always enjoyed classical music but violin most especially. On my luchbreak in December I walked down to the local Luthier*(violin maker) and asked about buying one. One of his runs in the $20,000 range. It should go without saying that the one pictured above is not one of his. However, he did have some that were made by a student of his that were in my price range. Presto chango I have a violin.I bought an electronic tuner so that I could tune the damn thing.
I tried online tuners but I cannot seem to match the sounds coming out of the speaker to the ones coming out of the violin. This thing is awesome. It tells me exactly when things are matched up. I did this and worked my way down the neck of the violin marking the finger placement points with strips of the sticky parts of Post Its(see picture of violin). It worked at first but as you play the post its slide too much so I just marked the neck with a pencil. Fuck it.
I tried learning classical songs but the music is pretty complicated and I haven't learned how to read it yet. So every note was like deciphering a code and I still didn't know if I was doing it right. The blog I like to read http://coldantlerfarm.blogspot.com had a competition for readers to learn the fiddle on thier own so I thought that maybe playing old mountain fiddle songs would be easier. It is. Plus the book the author recommended uses tabliture (music for dummies) so I can play without relying on my uncertain translations of musical notes on paper to musical notes on the violin. Pretty sweet.
Now I can play two songs: Momma's little baby likes shortnin' bread, and Who's going to town. Shortnin' bread is my fav. but when you only know two your options are limited. I'm working on more.
*His name is Phillip Injeian and he is on of the most cocky self loving braggarts I've ever met. Normally over the top cocky and arrogant is a trait I like in people. But this guy doesn't ever stop...ever.....ever.
As you can see from the diagram above I don't know shit and I'm sure as I reach the end of any of the paths of computer programming wisdom another 4 things will pop up and the rabbit hole will continue.

Last week I called Capital One about the 6.something % personal loans they offered on thier website. I wanted to consolidate my credit card debt into one lower interest loan. Apparently they update thier site as much as I update my blog becuase when I called the Indian (slurpy not casino) guy on the other end informed me that they are no longer making new loans given the current economy. Fuck! No dice.
After making a few frantic calls I realized through the hangover haze that I was not going to go to West Virginia. However I did recall a message on my cell from my mother the night before that said my younger brother would be in town for "some anime event" and I should try and meet up with him. Which brings me to the next noteworthy topic:

I have a decent job, no kids, never been married, and $83K of debt. I think that should cover the basics.
